This
is a small collection of block prints - from wood, linoleum, and
soft blocks. Block printing is reproducing drawings or pictures
from a relief surface. Ancient Chinese, Assyrians, and Egyptians
experimented with block prints. These were used to repeat patterns
on fabric. Today the same method of printing fabric is still practiced
in India. Block prints from the 8th and 9th centuries have been
found in China and Japan. The earliest woodcut in Europe has been
dated from the early part of the 15th century. Woodcuts were used
as illustrations with the advent of moveable type. Catch of the
Day offers framed block prints plus a small collection of original
block prints on t-shirts and caps. |
